Temporary GST/HST Changes: What Retailers Need to Know
The Canadian government recently announced temporary changes to the Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST). The updated legislation reduces GST/HST on certain goods, with the goal of offering financial relief to consumers. This will present operational challenges for retailers.
Qualifying Goods & Effective Dates
- Effective Dates: December 14, 2024 to February 15, 2025.
- Qualifying Goods: Applies to items such as groceries, restaurant meals, drinks, snacks, children’s clothing, and gifts. A complete list of qualifying goods is available on the Department of Finance Canada website.
